Miss Picky decided we just had to have a mini burger / slider press.  If it makes her eat something besides pasta and potatoes, I'm in! So we got one! and tonight we had sliders with all the fixing's!

I looked for slider buns at the supermarket, looked and looked, there was nothing specifically labeled slider buns, but Arnold's dinner rolls were a perfect fit! I guess it's sort of like when my kids were small, I never made cupcakes before, not from scratch and not from a mix. I went to the grocery and couldn't find the box of cupcake mix. Looked everywhere. Nothing said CUPCAKE MIX! Finally went to the customer service desk and asked. The girl directed me to the cake mixes with a very big smile! This time I wasn't taking chances, I didn't ask, I just went with the dinner rolls :)

Mine had chipotle mayo, onions, cheddar, avocado, shredded lettuce and tomatoes!

Miss Picky had two mini's. Plain with ketchup. This was worth it. Very worth it! I think chicken mini's are in our future! and definitely I can make these gyro burgers again, they were amazing!  Flashing back to the Middle Eastern Sliders by Rachael Ray for Suzy's Flashback Friday at Kitchen Bouquet!  Stop by the Kitchen Bouquet to see more flashbacks!

4 pita breads
1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1 teaspoon ground cumin
Salt and pepper
1 romaine heart, thinly sliced crosswise
1 cup grape tomatoes, halved
1/2 cup dill pickle slices
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, plus lemon wedges for serving
3/4 cup store-bought hummus

Tip: You can also use Greek-style yogurt instead of the hummus and add feta cheese crumbles to the salad.

Preheat a grill to medium-high. Stack the pitas and wrap in heavy-duty foil; place on the grill and cover to warm.

In a large bowl, combine the beef with the cumin, 3/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper; shape into twelve 1/3-inch-thick patties. In another large bowl, combine the romaine, tomatoes and pickles; toss with the olive oil and lemon juice and season with salt and pepper.

Remove the pitas from the grill. Transfer the beef patties to the grill, cover and grill for 2 minutes on each side for medium. Spread each pita with some of the hummus, then top with some of the salad and 3 patties. Serve with the lemon wedges.

  1. I've been eyeing those slider presses but I am running out of room in the kitchen for all of the gadgets!

Sliders are so fun! Love all of the possibilities. These look delicious! A great summer dinner.

  2. Miss Picky is so smart! Two thumbs up from me. Look great and its 10:00 at night and I need a burger (just a mini if you please). I need one bad.

  3. The sliders look good and what a fun tool the press is. You had me laughing over the cupcake mix - good one!

  4. These look very good! Why is it that stuff in miniature is always more interesting. Happy that Miss Picky enjoyed hers.

  5. oh my,good that Miss picky has enjoyed something there than potatoes and pasta

  6. They look delicious, Carol! But hamburgers are one of my favorite things!
Hot dog rolls work in a pinch, just flatten a little and cut in 3rds. And they do have slider rolls, but not all the supermarkets carry them.
Cupcake mix, LOL. My young cousin was baking and didn't have baking soda so he used ginger ale! Hey, it's soda! :) But he was 11!

  7. Hey Kathleen - can you imagine Carol at 11? Oh my, what stories!

  8. That slider press is great. I wish I had one!

  9. Love your mini baby burgers. Glad Miss Picky liked them too. I'm sure her and her friends could eat a bushel full. Thanks for joining me in the flashback. Very worth of revisiting!

  10. Now this looks yummy! I didn't know there was a press for sliders! Love the cupcake mix story! Have a great weekend!...hugs...Debbie

  11. Thanks for the recipe, sounds great! I can find slider buns in only one of our stores. Kathleen's idea of using hot dog buns is a good idea. We buy the sliders already made at Wegman's. So good!

  12. Those sliders look darn good! Love that slider press too.

  13. This looks good! We have been exploring different ethnic food for the past month, too hot to be cooking in doors. I love the idea of the sliders.

P.S. Thanks for stopping by. It has been hectic in the household taking care of a sick cat. It has been a struggle giving her antibiotics.
She is feeling better and hope to be back blogging in the week to come, or even earlier.

  14. What I wouldn't pay for a photo of you taking a bite out of that slider!!! (Looks a little full) Love my slider press - I use the 'cocktail' or 'silver dollar' buns from the bakery - they are the perfect size. The pork burgers are really good too with a little slaw~
